The harsh Nebraska prairie was my home, the same as it was for Alexandra Bergson, the strong, splendid woman who had taken up the mantle of running her family's farm after her father's death in Willa Cather's touching novel, 'O Pioneers!'. This tale is a tale inspired by her and the pioneering spirit. Alexandra was a woman who fought against the odds, just like her forbears. Despite being an unexpected heiress in a male-dominated society, she proved her mettle through sheer grit and determination, thriving even when the landscape and society seemed stacked against her.
