Residents of the Emerald City were astounded, for today was meant to be the Day of the Western Gale – an annual occurrence of tempestuous winds and vibrant rainbows. Yet, there was only silence and stagnated air. Sensing the confusion, Dorothy decided to consult Wizard.

Billy Coleman had spent his boyhood in the rugged hills of the Ozarks, fostering a strong bond with his two loyal coonhounds, Old Dan and Little Ann. But after the hounds met a tragic end, the loss destroyed Billy's heart. He left the hills of his childhood to find city life, leaving his heartbreak behind. This is a tale, long forgotten, of a journey back to the land he once called home, and the sprouting of a second Red Fern.
